2 – 8 November 2015: Week of Action Against the North Wales Prison & the Prison Industrial Complex

Week of Action

We are mobilizing against the construction of the prison in Wrexham (North Wales). A £250 million facility designed to hold over 2,100 people. The second largest prison in Europe. Built by Lend Lease.

Locals have fought this project for over 5 years. Blocking permits, lobbying, protesting. Yet, permission was granted in November 2014. Construction continues.

Our Aim

Delay the work. Send a signal to the government and the prison industry: we do not consent to profiting from caging people.

The state wants to expand the penal system. We intend to stop it. We fight until all are free.

Plan of Action

  • Demos at suppliers. Check the list of companies profiting from incarceration in the Prison Profiteers section.
  • Noise outside the walls. Solidarity demos at prisons across the UK.
  • Education. Workshops and screenings on the reality of the Prison Industrial Complex in the UK.

We also support allied events:

  • October 31: UFFC March (United Families and Friends Campaign). In memory of those who died in police custody, prisons, and psychiatric hospitals. Start: 12:00 PM, Trafalgar Square. March to Downing Street.
  • November 7: Surround Yarl’s Wood. Demonstration at the immigration detention center.
